Get Involved with Missions

How Can You Get Involved?

God wants us to support his cross-cultural work, including ministry to the nations overseas. By giving us a heart for missions, God is enabling us to support his work, both financially and prayerfully. Unless we have a heart for missions, we will not be able to support fully his work in the earth. Unless God changes us, we will spend all we have on ourselves. How can you get involved in seeing that people from every people group gather eternally around the throne of God (Revelation 5:9-10)?

All of Us are Commanded to Pray, Give and Go

bulletPray (Ephesians 6:18)
bulletGive (Romans 10:12-15, "How shall they go unless they are sent?")
bulletGo (Matthew 28:18-20)

The scope of our involvement will vary for each of us, but each one of us are to intercede for God's purposes, give to send others to preach the gospel, and go wherever and whenever God sends us.

God Wants Us Involved

The following list is not exhaustive, but is intended to paint a broad picture of how God desires to raise up all manner of support for his purposes in the earth:

bulletGod is raising up intercessors to pray and lift up the hands of those on the front lines, like Aaron and Hur held up Moses' arms (Exodus 17:11-12).
bulletGod is raising up entrepreneurs and business people to create and invest wealth for missions and the body of Christ in the nations. These people also open doors into neighborhoods, cities, and countries through the auspices of a business or economic entrée. (See Lydia, Acts 16:14).
bulletGod is raising up ambassadors who are willing to go as career missionaries to represent their Great King by living and serving in another land (2 Corinthians 5:18). To sacrifice personal comfort and convenience to obey, honor, and love their King who sends them is the heart of these ambassadors.
bulletGod is raising up servants to assist those on the field (Romans 10:15). Those who stay home and help are just as important as those who go (1 Samuel 30:23-24).
bulletGod is raising up investors who will support career missionaries faithfully (Matthew 6:19-21; Luke 8:1-3; Romans 10:14-15). We are all investors. It is just some of us are laying up treasures in heaven while others of us watch our earthly investments rot away. They fade to nothing.
bulletGod is raising up envoys who will travel on short-term trips to the front lines to impart to others what they have received, to strengthen the brothers as Paul did on his missionary trips, and to equip the local body. (See also Titus in 2 Corinthians 8:22-24.).
bulletGod is raising up tentmakers who will use their jobs to further the gospel rather than their own careers, especially in nations where access for the gospel is limited.
