KidServe Volunteer Ministry

Volunteer Guidelines

What is KidServe?

KidServe is Calvary ’s ministry to the children in the preschool area and to the KidCare teachers who care for our little ones each week.  We minister to them by volunteering to assist in the classrooms on Sunday morning during the Worship Service.

Why do we have KidServe?

It is our privilege, as Calvary members, to provide the spiritual influence and training for the children in our church.  Participating in KidServe is an expression of servanthood within our own body, and it is visible representation of the love of the Lord to the children, their parents, and to our KidCare staff.  It also allows for flexibility in the staffing of our classes since the number of children fluctuates from week to week.

Who are the volunteers for KidServe?

Volunteers are taken from the membership list, and include regular attendees.  Adults and youth who are 16 years of age are included in the list.

How will the KidServe list be publicized?

We post the KidServe Volunteer List for the current month on the Kids News bulletin board in the Children's Ministry Foyer.  Volunteers are notified by mail 2 weeks in advance by  postcard.  The names for the current Sunday are listed in the bulletin weekly.

How often do people serve?

People are listed for potential service about once a year.  If KidCare staffing is adequate for the number of children in KidCare that Sunday, volunteers will not be asked to serve.  But we ask that all volunteers check-in with the KidCare Director on their Sunday.

What if I can’t serve on my Sunday?

If, for some reason, you cannot serve on the date listed, it is essential that you make arrangements for a substitute to serve in your place.  Perhaps you could switch dates with someone you know.

Check in System:

We ask that all KidServe Volunteers check-in with the KidCare Director at the Children’s Ministry Information Desk by 9:45 a.m. Sunday morning.  At that time the volunteer will either be assigned to a classroom or released to go into the service.  If they are needed later that morning, the number 88 will flash on the Silent Pager System.

Questions?

If you have questions about KidServe, please talk with Renita LeCrone , the KidCare Director, or Sheryl Busch, the Children's Minister.

Volunteer Guidelines

1) Please check-in at the Children’s Ministry Information Desk by 9:45 a.m.  Tell the KidCare Director or Assistant Director who you are and that you are checking in for KidServe.  If you are needed, the Director will assign you to a room and answer any questions you may have.  If you are not needed, you will be released to go into the worship service.  When and if you are needed, the Director will alert you with the number 88 on the Silent Pager System.  When you see this number, please return to the CM Information Desk.

2) For safety reasons, older children are not allowed in the preschool rooms.  If you have older children, please make arrangements for them to be cared for by others while you volunteer for KidServe Ministry.

3) Please take an active part with the children to whom you are ministering.  This is an opportunity to show God's love and encouragement to our youngest members.  For example, you could initiate play, read a story, help with a puzzle, etc.

4) Only KidCare teachers are allowed to discipline children.  These KidCare teachers are trained and under the direct supervision of the KidCare Director.

5) Always use a soft, kind voice, and give the children direction in positive ways.  Never yell or threaten a child.

6) Never hit, grab, or spank a child.

7) Only KidCare teachers are allowed to change diapers.  They will be responsible for taking the little ones to the bathroom also.

8) Only parents may pick up their own children!  We do not release children to older siblings or other people.

9) As children get picked up and the class size gets smaller, the KidCare Director will tell you when you are no longer needed.  KidCare teachers will remain until all the children are picked up by their parents.

10) Thank you for your labor of love among our little blessings.
