A Transformation Event During our Mission Trip to Nigeria

By Jeff McGee

As you know, a team of seven from Calvary traveled recently to serve some of our Nigerian friends with their conference and ministry. Here is one testimony from the week. Thanks for your prayers.

We arrived at 3:00pm on Monday back in Houston (January 17). It took quite a while to get through customs, pick up our luggage, and get our rides home. It was an awesome trip.

The only glitch on the trip dealt with me. I developed a sinus infection on Friday of last week. But, I called my doctor as soon as we landed. I picked up some antibiotics. So, we are on the road to recovery.

The trip was a divine appointment for our team of seven. I will spare you the details. However, one event on Saturday, January 15, looked like a re-enactment straight from the Fiji films (Transformation Series by George Otis, Jr.).

Our host, Mosy Madugba, took us to Ohanka Land, a place of several villages in the bush. The king of the district was there. About 25 of the area’s 70 Chiefs were there. Three of the main villages in the district were represented. In all, there were about 2000 people meeting in the dirt center of this rural village.

The purpose of the 2 day event was simple. After 2000 years of idol, ancestral, and demonic worship, the villages had decided that their gods had failed them. They spent 40 days in fasting and prayer, culminating in the 2 day events of January 15 – 16, 2005.

On Saturday, we heard the history of the villages. In 1920, white missionaries came to Ohanku. The people rejected them and their gospel. Through demonic incantations, the witch doctors brought a swarm of flies and mosquitoes to drive away the missionaries. The missionaries went a few miles away, and started their work there. In that place, the area is civilized. Other blessings of the Lord poured into that area which received the gospel: roads, infrastructure, favor with the Nigerian government, agricultural growth, market place expansion, etc.

But Ohanka land continued to suffer under demonic bondage. Their shrines, alters, Ju Ju, and other demon worship failed them.

So, they came together to turn the land, the villages, and the people over to Jesus Christ.

After sharing the history of the area, the King of Ohanka land spoke out about the 2 day event. He reminded the people why they gathered.

Mosy Madugba, our host, then preached a powerful message about the kingdom of God and the power and victory of Christ to defeat the generational, demonic, and ancestral sins.

After Mosy preached, it was time for public repentance. They chose three chiefs, representing all the villages. These chiefs knelt in turn and publicly repented to God, humbly sought forgiveness, and tearfully appealed to the mercy of God.

Then, Lee Grady and I were asked to come forth to receive the public apology, confession, and repentance of the oldest chief in the land. We represented the white missionaries who had been rejected.

After his humble confession, apology, and repentance, we released them and forgave them. Lee and I then prayed for blessings on their land, people, and produce.

On Sunday, the group went back to tear down the altars, to destroy all demonic and witchcraft fetishes, and to anoint the land. The witch doctors that came on Saturday were powerless to stop the onslaught of God’s grace and love.

It was a highlight in the midst of multiple highlights for us. What a privilege! We got to see people turn to Christ en masse!!!! Praise the Lord.

Thanks again for your prayers. The Lord was with us every step of the way. (Since we were up at 4:30am each morning and retired after midnight, we needed him with us all 12 days of the trip.)

Ohanku Community Land Deliverance
A Transformation Experience

By Daniel Ayih --- Reporting for Ministers Prayer Network

Feb 10, 2005, at 10:08 AM: A Report from The Ministers Prayer Network regarding the Ohanka Community Land Deliverance

On Saturday, January 15th, 2005. Rev Mosy U. Madugba with a team made up of the following; Pastor Jeff McGee, Dennis and Donna Vauk, Rick & Linda Jones, Ann Ott and Suzy Seidel from Houston, Texas, USA, and Lee Grady and Paula Yorker from Florida USA; Pastor Bryant Townsend from Brise, Idaho, William Pahl from New York, USA. Also in the team were Pastor Neville Owens from Jamaica , Sharon Brown and Bishop Owen Walker from Miami FL. USA . There were a few Nigerians including Evang. Daniel Ayih, Pastor Nma Enejuba and others.  They left for Ohanku to meet with the three kings, the chiefs and the people of three autonomous communities comprising of several villages. As they arrived Ohanku Gate- the decision-making Square, the three communities with their kings and paramount Chiefs had gathered at the square waiting for the man of God.

On their arrival the President of Ohanku Believers Fellowship introduced Rev. Mosy Madugba. Rev. Madugba opened with the meeting with a prayer and read the book of 2 Chron 7:14 and preached to them. Before the arrival of the team, people who used diabolic means to harass, maim, and kill their fellow villagers as well as the priests of various evil gods surrendered those gods and native charms.  Family idols, contents of shrines, masquerade heads, et cetra were gathered in a high heap.

The man of God enumerated the dangers in idol worship;
1. It brings Curses
2. It attracts the jealous anger of God Ex 20:1-5
3. It brings retrogression in all areas of life.
4. It kills, people die prematurely.
5. It closes the entire family.
6. It brings personal and community setbacks.

The man of God told them what they should do;
1. Repent of it.
2. Renounce it.
3. Destroy it. Deut. 12:1-3
4. Chase away the supervising spirits
5. Dedicate the communities to God.
6. Start a new life in Christ.

'When you have done these, then you will see what the Lord will do,' He said. The people confessed how their ancestors used satanic powers to invoke insects that drove away the white missionaries who brought the word of God to them. The white men went to Aba and settled there. Beginning from that time till now,  there had not been any progress or positive development in their communities. They lost the opportunity of receiving the gospel, early education and urban development. "What we see in the city of Aba today could have been located at Ohanku," they moaned.

Rev Madugba asked two White American ministers in his team to stand out, receive the apologies of the chiefs of the various communities, forgive them and pray to break the curses of their rejection of the truth God. The communities were represented by three elderly men who confessed their sins to the white brethren who represented their ancestors that came those days. The White brothers accepted their apologies and prayed for the community that God might visit and bless them. Afterwards, Rev. Madugba prayed for the community and blessed them and handed over the entire community into God's hand. In that square were six satanic altars represented by six huge ancient trees of over 60 feet tall.

THE BURNED FIRE

The heap of idols and gods were set on fire by Rev Mosy Madugba. Thereafter, the Christians from the communities led the team to another location where a building, housing one of the gods was demolished and burnt with fire. The surrounding sacred trees were all cut down. Rev Madugba instructed the Christians to go round the entire communities to destroy every visible presence of those false gods. This exercise continued for three days.

TESTIMONIES

When
one of these trees was cut down, Ohanku's rusted water pipe, which had not run for a very long time, supernaturally suddenly started to run. Children and women danced and sang as they fetched the water.

Other fetish sacred trees in other places in these communities were cut down. The juju which was used to send away the white men was brought to the Centre and was destroyed by fire. Greater portion of the juju were destroyed on the third day. Suddenly, on the third day, January 18, caterpillars, bull dozers and construction people began to construct, repair and expand their only major and abandoned road linking Ohanku to Aba to the exciting surprising of all and sundry.

The whole community is now experiencing the great move of God. It has brought about great revival in the entire community. More great things are going on in that community on a daily basis now. This is transformation at a deep level. May the name of the Lord be praised for his great deliverance, Amen. Obadiah 1:17.

African Fire

By J. Lee Grady

(Used by permission, Charisma, March 2005)

The village of Ohanku is at least 15 miles from any major thoroughfare in Nigeria . When I visited there in January, our bus followed a one-lane dirt road that looked more like a footpath. I saw only two cars along the way, but several women were walking on the side of the road as they balanced bundles of food on their heads. Seeing my white face in this remote area prompted surprised looks from everybody.

When my group arrived in the village I was amazed to find almost 1,000 people waiting for church to start. They had assembled near a giant tree in the central market area; the tribal king and several chiefs and their wives were seated under a makeshift canopy. Most of the crowd belonged to different congregation, but they had gathered in unity this afternoon to celebrate a miracle.

They called it “the healing of Ohanku land.” I was one of a handful of non-Africans to witness it.

The ceremony began when Mosy Madugba, a respected Nigerian minister and mentor of mine, reminded the people of how God blessed Israel when they renounced their foreign gods.

Then a frail tribal leader recited the history of the village. For centuries the people of this region had practiced witchcraft and worshiped a river goddess. Then in 1920, the chieftain explained, white missionaries brought the gospel to the village–but local occult priests sent insects to drive them away.

“Today we are asking God to forgive the people of Ohanku for rejecting the gospel,” Mosy announced. He then asked another white minister, Jeff McGee from Texas , and me to represent the missionaries who had been expelled 85 years ago. Three tribal leaders took the microphone, one after the other, and asked for forgiveness. Jeff and I forgave them and pronounced God’s blessings on the people.

I knelt in the dirt. “Father,” I prayed in front of the crowd, “send Your prosperity to this village. Bless the crops. Bless the water. Bless the children with health and education. Let the gospel of Jesus be preached from this place.”

The healing of Ohanku continued on Sunday when we returned for a second service. This time the villagers had collected reminders of their old religion–goat skulls, sticks, chains and feathers used as occult charms–and dumped them in a huge pile.

Just as the Ephesians burned their occult books in the days of the apostle Paul (see Acts 19:19 ), the people of Ohanku broke a cycle of poverty and ignorance by burning their false gods. I joined with my Nigerian friends in singing worship choruses as their idols were consumed by the flames.

More joy erupted the next day when someone phoned Mosy with a report of a miracle. Some public water pipes in Ohanku that had been rusted shut for years opened suddenly the next morning.

Villagers saw the gushing water as a sign of God’s promised favor. Children began dancing in the streets.

The celebration in Ohanku is being repeated throughout Africa today. Entire communities in Nigeria are rejecting idols and embracing faith in Christ.

Only a century ago Nigeria was dominated by occultism. Today it is home to the world’s largest church and one of the world’s fastest growing denominations. Researchers say that in 25 years the global headquarters of missionary activity will be in Africa and Asia–not North America .

What does this mean for us? If we Americans want to stay in the flow of what the Holy Spirit is doing, we should learn a few things from our African brothers and sisters. We need the spiritual gifts that God has deposited in them. It’s time to stop looking at them as a mission field and recognize that the Holy Spirit has uniquely equipped them to instruct us. It is time for partnership.

The men and women I’ve met in Nigeria have forever changed my life. Mosy Madugba has taught me lessons about spiritual warfare that I never could have learned in an American setting. My friends Emmanuel Kure and Abu Bako–both of whom were attacked and scarred by Muslims after they preached in public–are models of apostolic bravery.

Many Nigerian Christians recognize that God has visited their nation and entrusted them with a serious responsibility to evangelize the world. They carry a sense of urgency that I don’t see in most Western churches. When I get close to the Africans my faith grows more aggressive, my prayers become more militant and my spiritual passion glows hotter.

Their intense zeal has nothing to do with skin color or nationality. It’s due to the fact that they have embraced a bold, raw, New Testament faith that we barely even recognize from where we sit in our cushioned pews.

When this African zeal spreads in our direction, I hope we gather around a bonfire of our own–to burn our idols of intellectual pride, racial prejudice and religious compromise. That will be a celebration indeed.

A Series of Divine Encounters

By Ann Ott

The Nigerian mission trip was a series of divine encounters. One of these encounters was meeting a candidate for President of Liberia. Another encounter was meeting a U.N. representative for Africa on the plane trip to Lagos , Nigeria . We received prophetic words for his life. I believe we were not allowed to land in Lagos until God could speak into his life. Our trip to the Nigerian bush was an encounter to see how God is moving in transformation around the world.

I had a vision a few years ago. I saw this vision come to pass in the physical world in Nigeria during the prayer conference. I saw a vision of people worshipping before an altar in a church. I saw them fall to the ground under the power of the Holy Spirit. No one was praying for them or touching them. We saw this happen multiple times at the prayer conference in Nigeria . We saw people come down to the altar, start shaking, and fall to the floor under the power of the Holy Spirit. No one was praying for them or touching them.

Prayer counseling in Nigeria was challenging. Some of the prayer requests were much bigger than those encountered in the U.S. We encountered a large amount of witchcraft and curses by witchdoctors. The people in Nigeria and Africa have a hard life and have given much for their allegiance to Jesus Christ.

The Nigerian Christians at the prayer conference were on fire for God. Seeing this fire caused my heart to burn to see this fire in the Christians in the U.S. I interceded with God to see a great revival in the U.S.

God Bless! Ann

Nigeria Report

By Rick and Linda Jones

It was an amazing trip to Nigeria . We experienced great favor and divine appointments each day. We were truly in awe of the many things that God is doing in the world.

The day we arrived we went to our host home for lunch. Our hosts were Mosy and Gloria Madugba. We met several visiting pastors. At this lunch we also had the privilege to meet Charles Brunskine, a humble, spirit filled Christian candidate for the office of President of Liberia. Our team easily connected with him. We had opportunities to get to know him as we shared meals, rides to the conference, and prayer times together. It was a time for God to give us a sense of connection to Liberia . The Lord also moved us to pray for Liberia and the possibility for Charles to become the next President. We exchanged information so we could keep in touch and receive information as we continue to pray.

On that first day, our group was driven to the home of Graham Douglas. Graham had been an influential businessman and a key politician in Nigeria . He even served as a minister or department head within the Nigerian government for two terms. Now, Douglas is retired. And, he has been changed by God. The Lord is now at work in his life, so much so that other politicians note the drastic transformation. Graham Douglas became a follower of Christ last year. He wanted to host the visiting Americans for dinner.

At the dinner, our group was introduced to a Tribal King. This King was at Graham’s house in order to meet the visiting Americans. That turned out to be the first of four evenings that we were invited to Graham’s to eat with him. We were all humbled and amazed that God was allowing us to meet and hear the testimonies of high ranking politicians and key influencers, people whom God was raising up to touch Nigeria and Liberia .

Sunday morning, Rick and I shared in a spirit-filled Pentecostal Church . The pastor told us that the prophetic words Rick had shared confirmed many things. Here, with our host pastor and wife, we experienced another divine appointment and heart-connection.

On Saturday our host pastor took us to his village. They are building a huge home outside of Port Harcourt . They told us of the open vision the pastor had when he was 12 years old. He saw a piece of property with three large homes and a church. The home he was now building was the first and the largest. This man was building the home according to what he had seen in his vision. The home had 12 to 14 bedrooms and several bathrooms. Before they met, his wife had also received a vision of a village she had not visited. In it, she saw a piece of property with a large house on it. The first time she visited her husband’s village, she knew it was the village in her vision.

When the home is completed, they will have large crusades and invite International speakers to the village. The village does not have a hotel, so the home would provide a place for the people to stay. Our host pastor told us that by having Americans and other International speakers, it will help to draw the people and the kings in his area to the crusades. The people of Africa have high regard for Americans. Thousands will come to hear an American speak. He believes that rulers and villagers by the thousands will be attracted to the crusades and come to know Christ. God had also blessed the pastor with preaching on TV three days a week. Because of this media ministry, he is well-known in his area. The six kings in his area tell him they listen to his preaching on TV.

Our host pastor also told us his cousin, the President of the Senate of Nigeria, lived across the street and has become a believer. Next door to their propriety is where the helicopter lands which transports politicians. God has given this man connection and favor. Now, God is giving him a place to receive high ranking government officials. It is a gateway for God to touch the hearts of the corrupt politicians. (We had an invitation extended to us for the crusade next year.)

Others also have the vision and desire to see whole villages and districts come to faith in Christ. (Please read the testimony of transformation event during our mission trip to Nigeria .) It will be exciting to hear the reports of God's work in those villages.

The Global Prayer Quake conference we attended was awesome. The preaching was life changing. God reconnected Rick and I with a global vision for the body of Christ. He continues to raise up a mighty prayer army across the globe. God also connected us with pastors from Jamaica and Sri Lanka . God set our hearts on fire once again to pray for the nations.

We experienced many other blessings from this trip. We grew in spiritual warfare as we prayed daily while encountering the effects of a country filled with witchcraft. We saw a local pastor healed from physical pain as we ministered to him and broke curses put on him by a local witchdoctor. We prayed for a pastor in a Muslim village, asking God to provide safe houses for Muslims coming to Christ. We discovered that if a Muslim converts to Christianity, he is killed by his family. The pastor had already seen five people he led to the Lord burned alive.

We stood on stage as 10,000 Africans who attended the conference prayed aloud for America . What a powerful moment!

Rick and I were honored to teach a workshop on Missions with Passion. We were humbled to be guest speakers among so many godly men and women from around the world.

God revealed and imparted so much to us on this trip. We are still processing. During a very short time, God gave us relationships with people scattered throughout the nations. He has increased our burden to pray for the nations and our desire to give financially to see the kingdom expanded.

A Testimony of God’s Healing Power

By Suzy Seidel

Our recent short-term mission trip to Nigeria was filled with life-impacting events for me. I witnessed a real hunger for the things of God among the Christian believers there. The hunger was not limited to just a handful of believers. I saw a hunger in thousands of my brothers and sisters who I watched literally running to the altar to receive everything God had for them.

One particular evening of reveling in the presence of the Lord turned into an opportunity for me to experience the powerful healing hand of God in my own life.

As the Spirit of God touched those caught up in worship, one individual struggled with a stronghold of darkness in his life. Unfortunately, he gave in to the control of the enemy. In a frenzy, this man vaulted down the aisle, jumping over grown men in his way. I watched this man cart wheeling toward me, as though in slow motion. Then, I realized I was in his path. It was too late to avoid being struck. He cracked me in the face with the heel of his boot.

As the pain shot through the right side of my face, I feared that my nose was bleeding, or worse, broken.

After gaining the attention of some friends, I received prayer. My friends laid hands on me and began to pray. I was told that as soon as I was kicked my eye began to swell and turn black. However, God intervened. As soon as the team laid hands on me and prayed, the swelling and the blackness left. My nose was fine, too. God’s healing was immediate as my friends watched the swelling go down and the discoloration returned to normal instantly. Praise God!

Even though I was pretty shaken up by this event and would not have wished it to happen, God certainly turned it for good. I experienced the amazing and perfect love of my Father to watch over and care for his children wherever they are.
