A Transformation Event During our Mission Trip to NigeriaBy Jeff McGeeAs you know, a team of seven from Calvary traveled recently to serve some of our Nigerian friends with their conference and ministry. Here is one testimony from the week. Thanks for your prayers. We arrived at 3:00pm on Monday back in Houston (January 17). It took quite a while to get through customs, pick up our luggage, and get our rides home. It was an awesome trip. The only glitch on the trip dealt with me. I developed a sinus infection on Friday of last week. But, I called my doctor as soon as we landed. I picked up some antibiotics. So, we are on the road to recovery. The trip was a divine appointment for our team of seven. I will spare you the details. However, one event on Saturday, January 15, looked like a re-enactment straight from the Fiji films (Transformation Series by George Otis, Jr.). Our host, Mosy Madugba, took us to Ohanka Land, a place of several villages in the bush. The king of the district was there. About 25 of the area’s 70 Chiefs were there. Three of the main villages in the district were represented. In all, there were about 2000 people meeting in the dirt center of this rural village. The purpose of the 2 day event was simple. After 2000 years of idol, ancestral, and demonic worship, the villages had decided that their gods had failed them. They spent 40 days in fasting and prayer, culminating in the 2 day events of January 15 – 16, 2005. On Saturday, we heard the history of the villages. In 1920, white missionaries came to Ohanku. The people rejected them and their gospel. Through demonic incantations, the witch doctors brought a swarm of flies and mosquitoes to drive away the missionaries. The missionaries went a few miles away, and started their work there. In that place, the area is civilized. Other blessings of the Lord poured into that area which received the gospel: roads, infrastructure, favor with the Nigerian government, agricultural growth, market place expansion, etc. But Ohanka land continued to suffer under demonic bondage. Their shrines, alters, Ju Ju, and other demon worship failed them. So, they came together to turn the land, the villages, and the people over to Jesus Christ. After sharing the history of the area, the King of Ohanka land spoke out about the 2 day event. He reminded the people why they gathered. Mosy Madugba, our host, then preached a powerful message about the kingdom of God and the power and victory of Christ to defeat the generational, demonic, and ancestral sins. After Mosy preached, it was time for public repentance. They chose three chiefs, representing all the villages. These chiefs knelt in turn and publicly repented to God, humbly sought forgiveness, and tearfully appealed to the mercy of God. Then, Lee Grady and I were asked to come forth to receive the public apology, confession, and repentance of the oldest chief in the land. We represented the white missionaries who had been rejected. After his humble confession, apology, and repentance, we released them and forgave them. Lee and I then prayed for blessings on their land, people, and produce. On Sunday, the group went back to tear down the altars, to destroy all demonic and witchcraft fetishes, and to anoint the land. The witch doctors that came on Saturday were powerless to stop the onslaught of God’s grace and love. It was a highlight in the midst of multiple highlights for us. What a privilege! We got to see people turn to Christ en masse!!!! Praise the Lord. Thanks again for your prayers. The Lord was with us every step of the way. (Since we were up at 4:30am each morning and retired after midnight, we needed him with us all 12 days of the trip.)

Ohanku Community Land Deliverance
|
African FireBy J. Lee Grady(Used by permission, Charisma, March 2005) The When my group arrived in the village I was amazed to
find almost 1,000 people waiting for church to start. They had assembled
near a giant tree in the central market area; the tribal king and
several chiefs and their wives were seated under a makeshift canopy.
Most of the crowd belonged to different congregation, but they had
gathered in unity this afternoon to celebrate a miracle. They called it “the healing of Ohanku land.” I was
one of a handful of non-Africans to witness it.
The ceremony began when Mosy Madugba, a respected
Nigerian minister and mentor of mine, reminded the people of how God
blessed Then a frail tribal leader recited the history of the
village. For centuries the people of this region had practiced
witchcraft and worshiped a river goddess. Then in 1920, the chieftain
explained, white missionaries brought the gospel to the village–but
local occult priests sent insects to drive them away. “Today we are asking God to forgive the people of
Ohanku for rejecting the gospel,” Mosy announced. He then asked
another white minister, Jeff McGee from I knelt in the dirt. “Father,” I prayed in front of
the crowd, “send Your prosperity to this village. Bless the crops.
Bless the water. Bless the children with health and education. Let the
gospel of Jesus be preached from this place.” The healing of Ohanku continued on Sunday when we
returned for a second service. This time the villagers had collected
reminders of their old religion–goat skulls, sticks, chains and
feathers used as occult charms–and dumped them in a huge pile. Just as the Ephesians burned their occult books in the
days of the apostle Paul (see More joy erupted the next day when someone phoned Mosy
with a report of a miracle. Some public water pipes in Ohanku that had
been rusted shut for years opened suddenly the next morning. Villagers saw the gushing water as a sign of God’s
promised favor. Children began dancing in the streets. The celebration in Ohanku is being repeated throughout Only a century ago What does this mean for us? If we Americans want to stay
in the flow of what the Holy Spirit is doing, we should learn a few
things from our African brothers and sisters. We need the spiritual
gifts that God has deposited in them. It’s time to stop looking at
them as a mission field and recognize that the Holy Spirit has uniquely
equipped them to instruct us. It is time for partnership. The men and women I’ve met in Many Nigerian Christians recognize that God has visited
their nation and entrusted them with a serious responsibility to
evangelize the world. They carry a sense of urgency that I don’t see
in most Western churches. When I get close to the Africans my faith
grows more aggressive, my prayers become more militant and my spiritual
passion glows hotter.

A Testimony of God’s Healing
Power
By Suzy SeidelOur recent short-term mission trip to One particular evening of reveling in the presence of
the Lord turned into an opportunity for me to experience the powerful
healing hand of God in my own life. As the Spirit of God touched those caught up in worship,
one individual struggled with a stronghold of darkness in his life.
Unfortunately, he gave in to the control of the enemy. In a frenzy, this
man vaulted down the aisle, jumping over grown men in his way. I watched
this man cart wheeling toward me, as though in slow motion. Then, I
realized I was in his path. It was too late to avoid being struck. He
cracked me in the face with the heel of his boot. As the pain shot through the right side of my face, I feared that my nose was bleeding, or worse, broken. After gaining the attention of some friends, I received
prayer. My friends laid hands on me and began to pray. I was told that
as soon as I was kicked my eye began to swell and turn black. However,
God intervened. As soon as the team laid hands on me and prayed, the
swelling and the blackness left. My nose was fine, too. God’s healing
was immediate as my friends watched the swelling go down and the
discoloration returned to normal instantly. Praise God! Even though I was pretty shaken up by this event and would not have wished it to happen, God certainly turned it for good. I experienced the amazing and perfect love of my Father to watch over and care for his children wherever they are.
