Degenerative Disc Disease

By Don Bowman - April 2, 2008

I have degenerative disc disease which means the discs in my back are compressing. This allows the vertebra to put pressure on the nerves as they exit the spine. This causes numbness in my hands and feet and tingling sensations in my arms and legs. I became aware of this condition several years ago and it has slowly grown worse.

Over the last year I developed a constant dull ache under my left shoulder blade. X-rays showed it was from pressure on the nerves between the 5th & 6th and 6th & 7th vertebra. This ache was constant and would grow much worse if I had to stand or sit for long periods of time. It seemed to be particularly aggravated by driving. Over the counter pain relievers did nothing to alleviate the discomfort nor did any prescription medication. Physical therapy did provide some relief, but it was typically short lived.

When Michael said he would pray for healing during ministry time on Saturday, I had already noticed an increase in back pain from sitting a good part of that day. As Michael prayed for me the pain in my back and the dull ache under my left shoulder blade left. I still experience some discomfort when I rotate my upper body in certain ways, but am now pain free about 90% of the time, and the tingling and numbness have been reduced significantly.

If you've ever suffered from chronic back pain you'll understand what a blessing that is!

Praise God!
