ArtReach at MACSC & Housing, Inc |
By Tori Landry - July 2008Calvary Community Church has been hosting ArtReach for five years now, and whether it is overseas or in the Copperfield neighborhood, it has been an incredible success and a life line to the community. On Friday, July 18th, Calvary adult and 18 youth
volunteers partnered with MACSC & Housing, Inc. to bless the lives
of many children and adult workers at the The Calvary youth team arrived at 9:30 AM to provide a fun-filled day which included art, drama, dance, and group activities; but the program also left a heartfelt impact on the impoverished community. Many of the approximately 50 children who were involved with the Sunnyside ArtReach event are living in very poor families, dependent on welfare. Each child was hungry for love and attention, which is exactly what ArtReach and the giving volunteers were able to share. Another important truth that was shared was God’s unconditional love for them as expressed through Jesus Christ. After sharing the gospel through a creative art lesson, at least six teenagers responded to the message by surrendering their lives to Christ! Through each individual’s Christlike kindness, the Sunnyside Community Center felt the love of God and was excited about joining Calvary in future youth activities. The seeds that were planted are immeasurable, and the deep influence of our youth and volunteers is inspiring. It is our hope to continue to bless
