Passion, Praise, and Power |
By Evelyn Owens - January 2010Passion, praise, and power are three of the words
which describe our experiences during the recent trip to Nigeria. The
fellow believers we met were exuberant in their expressions of love
and affection for the Lord. They pray and praise with unbridled
passion, yet also regularly and purposely incorporate meaningful times
of quiet intimacy. The power of God was present to set many people
free as they lovingly worshipped the Lord through spontaneous songs
and zealous corporate intercession. I was amazed by the power of
humble worship. Pride was not an issue in these services. People were
not the focal point, God was. Our hearts quickly and effortlessly knit together as a
team while we were visiting and sharing as members of the family of
God. The people were genuinely grateful that we came and were
excellent hosts, graciously taking the time to personally escort us
from hotel to conference; city to village. God faithfully honored our
requests for peace, provision, and protection; we were indeed well
cared for at all times. We heard many wonderful messages during the conferences and were challenged, along with delegates from other countries, to be fully committed to the Lord. Many encouragements and instructions echo what we have heard at home for so long. For instance, one speaker instructed, "Don't chase after works; chase after God!" Mosy Madugba said, "The more of God you see, the more of Him you want. Keep pursuing Him!!!" 2010 is a Jubilee year for Nigeria and 17 other African nations as they celebrate 50 years of independence. Jubilee for these nations was the emphasis for one session of the PrayerQuake. Biblically, the year of Jubilee is set apart for redemption, restoration, recovery, and reclamation. The people are actively seeking all of these blessings for themselves, their families, cities, states, and countries. We were greatly encouraged as they prayed for America with this same enthusiasm, zealousness, and expectancy. These people were not simply sitting in a room waiting for the Holy Spirit to show up; they were chasing after God with everything they had! And it wasn't 6 or 7 Nigerians praying; neither was it just ministers on stage. It was a crowd of 10,000 to 15,000 from many nations, gathered with singleness of vision, with one heart bowed and one voice raised to give honor to the King of all creation. They were truly demonstrating the theme of the conference, "Run to win the Crown." What a blessing to also attend the historic first International Elohim Power Conference in Nibo (Anambra State). Their state motto is "Light to the Nations." Pastor Daniel aspires to send the light of Christ around the world from his home village in Nibo. What vision! What passion for the kingdom of God! During one of the sessions, an original play was presented which clearly demonstrated the gospel message in a context familiar to the people. Thirty or more responded to the altar call to commit their lives to Jesus, including one of the security guards assigned to the meeting. How we rejoiced with him! Another session topic was "Setting the Captive Free," from the point of view of the Abrahamic covenant. The evangelist Rev. Shitta emphasized that even the deliverers (Christians) need deliverance from tribal and generational iniquities. Many responded to the call to renounce practices and break curses from their pre-Christian experiences and were undeniably set free. What a celebration we had!! Each of us left a piece of our heart with our friends in
Africa, and we are strengthened in our faith from the time spent with
them. May God richly bless each one of you who partnered with us in
prayer and financial support. Thank you for being part of our team.
